PROJECT DETAILS
This was a unique commission, insofar as our client was perfectly happy with the layout and decor of their home, but they were unhappy with comfort levels. The house was cold due to an absence of insulation and excessive draughts – all normal in an old house of this type. Our brief was simple: take the existing building, retrofit for comfort and reinstate along similar design lines.
Our Deep Retrofit home renovation began with a complete strip out of the existing house. We dry lined the existing stone walls using the Isover Optima Dry-Lining System and insulated the roof using Metac insulation. Airtight membranes were installed to eliminate unwanted draughts. We replaced the existing windows and doors using hardwood double glazed units by DASK Ltd., to match the original windows. We also installed a new heating system with 3 heating zones, an Aereco Ventilation system and re-wired the whole house.
Fit out works consisted of new bathrooms, a new kitchen, new built-in wardrobes and new storage units. A centre piece in the house is the new staircase, with a turned hardwood handrail. Decoration consisted of new wool carpets, reinstatement of the parquet flooring, painting and re-hanging of the original curtains.
